Style of the week!

We have a huge selection of incredibly comfortable sweaters arriving daily. Brands like Miss Me, Vintage Havana and Blu Pepper are just some of our favorites. This fall, over sized sweaters are a must for every lady. They will keep you warm and cozy all the way through the end of winter. Some of you are thinking I am crazy, because you will be so ready for shorts and flip flops, but believe me when I say that once you get one of these cardigans in an Aztec print you will be begging winter to stay 6 weeks longer in February.050

The shell we chose for this week is a knit cardigan by Blu Pepper, the colors of this cardigan are pumpkin spice orange, black, khaki, and cream in an Aztec print. It has an open front that will fit loosely, a draped neckline, and a price of $46.00.
We like this cardigan paired with our favorite pair of 7 For All Mankind premium denim. These are a go to style of skinnies that we are all in love with because of the way they fit every one of us. These have a squiggle pocket design in antique wash. These fabulous jeans are $198.00.
A pair of amazing boots tie the outfit together. They are the Castille in black by UGG Australia. They are an oiled suede and buttery leather on the outside with a suede-covered gore insert which ensures a perfect fit. This boot has the wonderful sumptuous sheepskin sock liner that makes every pair of UGGs the best thing ever. They also have a leather lined heel counter. These are $350.00 on our website.
For this outfit we added two camisoles to add dimension one is a cream that we put on top of a orange coordinating color. This will also add warmth for those cold days. These camisoles are $18.00 each.

The Shaniel Bag in Black by Big Buddha is the perfect bag to pair with this adorable outfit. This subtly edgy bag featuring metallic stud detailing and fun tassel accents and is roomy enough for all your stuff! Priced at $84.00.
We chose two necklaces to accessorize this outfit. The first one is a 30” stone wing necklace in bronze for $12.99. The second is a antique brass necklace with birds sitting on a branch for $15.00.

(Not all items are on the website yet but we will be adding them and adding links to them. Feel free to call us with your order for anything that is not on our website yet.)

Style of the Week!

There is something just so soothing about Fall! Whether it is a pumpkin spiced latte, or the decadent mixture of nutmeg, allspice and caramel filling up your home. All of us here at Martin’s have been incredibly ready for Fall, it might not help that we freeze in the office, so it feels like we should be wearing baggy sweaters and riding boots. With this wonderful time of year sweeping in like a wonderful pile of leaves we just raked up in the back yard, we are showcasing our new Fall arrivals arriving daily. These new arrivals that we are dying to fill up our wardrobes with, if I might add.

So for our first Fall Outfit of the Week we have put together a pair of Rock Revival Skinny Jeans, a army green Others Follow jacket, and a black sheer long sleeve tee, we also added statement with a gold necklace.

outfit of the week1

The Jessica skinny single stitch jean in S3 by Rock Revival features a great medium to dark wash with the perfect amount of whiskering and fading details. The back flap pockets are embroidered with the signature Rock Revival inverted fleur de lis design. There is nothing about this jean that you wont love! They hug you in just the right places, a mid-rise that settles comfortably, and will flatter every body.

This classic Green long sleeve jacket by Others Follow features two upper pockets and two lower pockets and has a ruffled mandarin collar with tab shoulders. Fashion forward with the army green that was seen across runways this spring during the Fall 2013 Fashion Week. It is sure to be a very popular color that will be coveted for every wardrobe!

The sheer black long sleeve tee- Modal in Black by Luv 4 Anouka is the perfect staple to pair with any outfit in your wardrobe. It is light weight enough to keep you cool under a jacket and ideal with a tank, this will add warmth as the weather grows colder. You can do so many things with a staple item like this, it is one of those items that you put in with the 21 items for 7 day packing ensembles like you see on Pinterest. You can never go wrong with a few of these in any wardrobe.

The accessories we chose for this outfit is a chunky, medallion- gold necklace to add a little pop behind the army green jacket. You have to always remember to accessorize your outfits to add that something, that may seem missing when you look at your self in the mirror!

My motto is to go wild on the accessories- the belts, the hair clips, and the jewelry. -Heidi Klum

We know that this week you will be so ready for fall just like we are, even if you didn’t realize that we transitioned into autumn this past Sunday. It is such a great time of year and it begins the wonderful giving season, which is on my top 3 list of favorite times of the year!

14 Tips and Tricks to make you look taller.

We all have little things that we might not like very much about ourselves, that we can’t change. Like height, we all know that some styles look better to us on someone that is tall and that only makes one that’s vertically challenged a little more self conscious about it.

Until the FDA approves that little pill that Alice took in Wonderland to allow us to grow a few inches, we will have to rely on a few clever fashion tips and tricks to fake those extra inches. Below are 14 ways to instantly look taller using nothing but what is already in your closet.

1. Try Flared Jeans
Fitted jeans with a distinct flare at the bottom create the illusion of a longer leg— especially when the hem hits the top of your shoes (heels, of course!) The trick here is to keep the fit of the jean super-slim through the leg, and to make sure the waistband hits your natural waist—not any lower.
For optimal height, be sure to pair your flares with a waist-length top, or a blouse you can tuck in.Flare Leg
2. Don’t Discount Maxi Skirts
It’s been drilled into our head that small women simply cannot wear floor-length skirts and dresses, but luckily that’s been proven entirely false. In fact, a well-cut maxi skirt can actually give you the appearance of looking taller.
3. Choose Heels with a Low-Cut Vamp
Here is a small trick that can change the way you shoe shop: Shoes that have a low-cut vamp instantly elongate your leg (and make them look slimmer, as well) when you’re wearing skirts, shorts, and dresses.
What’s a vamp? It’s the portion of a shoe that cuts across your foot at the front. So, a low vamp cuts across the base of the toes, while high vamp can come up the foot and possibly up to the ankle. If you’re able to find a pair that matches your skin tone, that’s even better in order to give the illusion of mile-long legs.
4. If You’re Going Short, Go Short
When you’re petite, it’s just a fact that—when it comes to skirts and dresses—you should either go super-long, or super-short (translation: avoid calf-length and knee-lengths). Mini-skirts show more skin, which creates the illusion of a longer leg.shortdresses
While ankle straps typically aren’t ideal for short ladies (they cut off your leg), they can work with super-short skirts since more skin is being shown. Of course, if you’re wearing a mini, make sure it’s not offensively short—let’s keep it chic, ladies.
5. Rock a Top Knot
Obvious, yes, but piling your hair on top of your head really does gives a taller impression, again creating a more vertical line. Same goes for hair that’s simply voluminous—it adds inches! Time to put away that flatiron, friends.
6. Wear All One Color
Using color to enhance the illusion of height is a highly effective strategy, as it helps create a vertical line. While wearing head-to-toe black is the simplest—and eternally chicest—option, saturated hues work well, too (a look that’s incredibly now, as well.) The trick to monochrome dressing: Keep each silhouette crisp and tailored.
7. Say Yes to High-Waist Bottoms
High-waist bottoms get a bad rap, possibly thanks to an unfortunate Jessica Simpson style mishap, but when worn correctly, they can trick the eye into thinking you’re taller by elongating your lower body. Whether you choose skirts, shorts or skinny jeans, be sure to make the elevated waist visible by tucking in a tailored blouse, or opting for a slightly cropped top.
8. Wear Pointy Flats
Since nobody can be expected to wear sky-high heels every day, petite gals should invest in a pair of pointy flats. Why? Because it’s a known fact that shoes with pointed toes lengthen your leg line.
9. Rock Out With Vertical Stripes
It’s the oldest trick in the book for a reason: Vertical stripes create long lines, thus making you look, well, longer.
10. Ditch the Gigantic Shoulder Bag
Keeping your accessories appropriately scaled to your body size is a smart move for petite girls, starting with that over sized bag. Here’s why: Every time you cause the eye to take in width, you reduce the amount of height it takes in.
That means smaller cross-body bags, clutches, and small top-handle totes are your best bet.
11. Chop Your Hair
Long hair drags petite girls down, while shorter hair does the opposite. A wavy lob (long bob) is the best option—it shows off your shoulders and your neckline, which makes you look taller (plus, it’s so chic!). Daring gals should go even shorter like a super-sleek chin-length bob or an elegant pixie.
12. Stick with Skinny Belts
When it comes to belts, short girls should always opt for a skinny version—it’ll define your natural waist in the most flattering way possible, but won’t cut you in half the way a super-thick belt can, which causes you to look shorter.Short Sleeve Polka Dot Top with Round Neck and Belt by Freeway Apparel
13. Be Mindful of Proportion
When you’re petite, it’s imperative to be sure all your clothes fit properly (a good tailor is key!). Wearing cropped skinny jeans? Make sure they’re not too cropped and that the hem hits the ankle area—small gals should avoid anything resembling capri pants, as they cut your leg awkwardly. With blazers and jackets, always make sure the seams sit perfectly at the bony tops of your shoulders and that the sleeves hit exactly at your wrist.elongatinglegs
14. Wear V-Necks
Tops with plunging V necklines give the illusion of a longer, leaner torso, so keep that in mind when you’re shopping for new tops this season!
So ladies if you are short, don’t let yourself get down about it. Take action and put these tricks to work.
After all, a girl should be two things: classy and fabulous. -Cocoa Chanel

Style of the Week!

This week we chose one of the adorable outfit’s that we featured in our Fall Fashion shoot. These items will be a wonderful addition to your wardrobe because you can do so many different things with each item. 1-9166ASkinny’s are extremely versatile, and fit like a glove.  They will hug the perfect places and they are denim so they will hide things you might not want others to see- unlike a pair of leggings.

The shirt is by Karen Kane in our Missy’s department. It has a faux leather contrast of 90% polyester and 10% spandex on cream colored 100% polyester. This top is very flattering with a pair of skinny jeans, or even a pair of boot cut jeans paired with some tall riding boots or cowboy boots.

The jeans we paired this top with are Roxanne classic skinny’s by 7 For All Mankind. They are an extremely dark wash, the color is Knib. These make great jeans to wear with any of your tall fall boots because they will tuck in wonderfully. You could also add a pair of flats with these and be as equally adorable.

Tell us what you think, are you loving this ensemble or maybe this one just doesn’t speak to you? It sure is speaking to me…buy me, buy me!

Go to for these super cute jeans and coming soon on is the Karen Kane top. If you want the top now, feel free to call us here at the store and we do ship. ;)

What we will be seeing this Fall 2013!

We are going to give you some insight on what is hot for Fall 2013, trends that are going to either shoot off like a firecracker or fizzle out like a bad dream. Some looks like—modern leopard prints, strategic layering, winter whites—surely will have mass appeal, others might have little influence on the masses (case in point: drastically oversize overcoats). Also, we will tell you whether we like them or not.

The New Leopard: Leopard prints may conjure up slightly dated “Real Housewives” visions, but for fall 2013 it is at the top of the list for top designers. Designers like DKNY and Giambattista Valli, and they have put a cool modern stamp on the motif.
This is going to have a fairly strong appeal factor and even though most of us wont be purchasing the high fashion designer piece with such a notice- me print, other fashion stores will definitely produce their own take. People who don’t pay close attention to fashion or even follow trends wont notice its actually different from the flashy traditional leopard prints they have come to know.

Colored Fur: As you have seen on Pretty Wicked Mom’s Emily- the owner of hot boutique Swank in Atlanta, GA wear some very pretty pieces that we love. Fur is making a bold come back. Even though we are used to the natural colors often worn, that is not what caught fashion writers eye. It was the use of bold colors in jackets at Monique Lhuillier and Tom Ford, to the saturated fur scarves at Marni and Roksanda Illincic.
If shoppers decide to invest in a fur coat or scarf, we bet they’re sticking to black or brown. We are pretty sure high-street stores will put out plenty of colored faux fur come fall, but we anticipate quite a lot of women adopting a “I could never pull it off” mentality. Since most of us think that way on a normal basis especially when looking at some of these pieces on the models.

Black and White separates: Fashions chicest pairing- black and white- is a major front runner for Fall 2013. For this style you will see it most often shown using contrasting separates in different shapes, capped off with some interesting monochromatic accessories.
Considering almost everyone has at least one solid black and one solid white piece, right? We would think this would be a more appealing and easy to master style. Plus, it’s not particularly trendy, and it doesn’t require a great deal of commitment or cash.

The “IT” Layer: Layering in general is SUPER HOT, with loads of designers showcasing shirts under sweaters under jacks under coats. Although, what you will see most this fall will be a long sleeve top- a turtleneck or button down, mostly- underneath a structured tee or three-quarter- sleeve shirt with a round neck. Overall, this look adds a modern, fashion forward edge to otherwise fairly uneventful staples.
Fashion followers will for sure wear this trend, but since its not a one garment deal, people have to seek out the pieces to achieve the look. However, most of us do have a turtleneck or a button- down, and we are already seeing tons of structured tops with cropped sleeves. So women may actually test out this trend as long as they have easy access to the components.

Knee-high Boots: Our favorite trend that we are dying to get into the store! For the past few years, it seems women have by passed high heeled boots for the more modern- feeling booties, but that’s set to change come this fall. Lots of designers have breathed new life into structured to the knee boots decked with chunky heels, often pairing them with swingy mini skirts and dresses and over sized tops.
Knee-high flat boots never really went out of style, so we know the shape isn’t something women inherently shy away from. After several years of ankle booties being in style we believe women will welcome the vertical climb, especially when styled with new shapes and silhouettes, this will make tall boots feel new and fresh.
Naturalizer Riding Boots

Same- Print Mixing: Over the past year opposing prints have been popular on runways- think chevron and florals for example- they are taking a different route this fall. Several designers showcased the same print or similar prints in different sizes and colors, and paired them together.
In most cases women think mixing two or more separates with the same print might appear too busy for the average consumer, we are betting on several labels and stores watering this trend down a bit. Some instances include Zara and H&M have shown printed blouses whose sleeves or collars feature the same print as the body but in a different color or size.

Pink, Pink, Pink: It is astonishing the amount of looks that feature shades of pink. Dresses, outerwear, suites, and basic sportswear were all interpreted using the color, with countless designers counter balancing its sweetness with innovative modern silhouettes.
There are lots of women who swear they wold never touch this divisive hue with a 10-foor-pole- we are banking on the fact that it will show up in ways that are consumer friends. Examples like denim, pencil skirts, slouchy pants, etc.

Chic Sweatshirts: The luxe sweatshirt trend we have come to know over the past year isn’t going anywhere, from designers like Karen Walker, Rebecca Minkoff, and Matthew Williamson that are showcasing their own versions. They often paired them with swingy skirts or skinny trousers.
This is going to go viral, we’ve already seen a huge influx of “fashion” sweatshirts this year. It was the designer sweatshirts that were the first to sell out in Targets two most recent collections, indicating folks are still hungry for chic sweats.

Winter-Whites: White was a MAJOR force on fall runways, with designers showcasing head-to-toe looks using modern separates in varying shades of stark, ivory, and cream.
While many fashion conscious shoppers are caught up in the hackneyed “no white after labor day” rule, we have a feeling that might begin to change. We see pale coats, jeans, boxy sweaters, and accessories being standouts. Although, winter-white shoes- that were all over the runways on show goers’ feet- might not catch on as quickly.

Some fashion forecast trends that have a slim to fair mass-appeal factor are; Bokeh prints- a photography term for what looks like blurred lights- most pieces were evening ready-dresses and skirts. The under-arm bag tuck- even though labels like Prada and Givenchy started using it in print campaigns, we don’t think anyone else is going to go along with buying a bag with handles, only to shove it under your arm and grip it from the bottom. Overcoats, over sized, not merely a bit loose, falls overcoats are drastically over sized, with dropped shoulders, extra-long cuffs, and large lapels. Since dramatically large coats only go with certain outfits- that goes against the idea of an all-purpose piece of outerwear.  These trends will have a harder time catching on for the obvious reasons. Your more fashion conscious women will follow a little closer to trends but in your everyday life these trends will more than likely not be an eye catcher.

Hope this helps you in preparation for Fall 2013 and as you build your wardrobe. Feel free to contact us on any topics you would like to see discussed, and also check out our websites and

What to wear on the 4th of July?

For most of us we are looking for “THAT” outfit to wear for a holiday. The 4th of July is no exception! We want to look patriotic and stylish all at the same time; at least I know I do. Going to my closet and looking for something that I would wear to anything is not an outfit I choose when I am going to be around family, friends, co-workers, or just going to a community fireworks show. This means going that extra mile to find the perfect outfit for that day.

Feel Free to purchase more than one Patriotic outfit. There is reasoning behind that. July 4. 1776, the Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Second Continental Congress, announcing the 13 colonies would no longer be under British rule. We celebrate this milestone in our nation’s history as it so rightly deserves. We all have our own traditions whether it is spending time with family and barbequing, watching fireworks, or concerts and parades. On June 14- Flag Day, we recognize the three weeks leading up to the Fourth of July as Honor America Days. You most likely won’t find this on any calendar. But Congress established these days and adopted it into U.S. code to encourage gatherings and activities to celebrate and honor our country. Though this isn’t widely recognized, we are encouraged to have a sense of American pride in our daily lives. You can pick out different outfits that directly express your pride in our great country and we have just the selection to do that.

I am going to give three different options that will set you off like a firecracker on a hot day! You will want these outfits just as badly as I do, and yes I mean I want all three. I’ve contemplated having wardrobe changes throughout the day so that I could wear them…and yes I am aware that’s a little excessive so I have decided to show my Patriotism in the weeks before the Fourth of July. Let’s see which your favorite is.

This is an adorable pair of Alex Crop in Blaze by BIG STAR Jeans in a classic five pocket skinny jean. The material is made of 99% cotton and 1% lyca. These skinny’s are super cute just like they are but add even more so by rolling up the bottom and making them Capri’s.
These pants are paired with our USA Tank by Ya – Peace and Love tank on stars and blue jean colored material.
Also, under our USA Tank is a tube top to add accent and modesty.
Pair this ensemble with a pair of flats or cute flip flops.

Another outfit I chose was this flirty Navy and Off White sleeveless striped dress by The Timing. It has such cute accents like the bow type pockets on the front at the top and this super cute red belt that comes with it. The high waist on this dress ads so much to any figure and extenuates your waist line.
You can’t go wrong with this dress, pair it with heels or flats and you are good to go!

The last outfit that I am just absolutely in love with is this great sheer lace top in Navy by Ya features a chiffon contrast panel. This shirt is perfect for any summer wardrobe. I love how the back is all see through and you can add different color camisoles to add detail. The material is made of 65% cotton and 35% polyester.
We paired this top with a pair of Skinny Thompson’s in White by Vigoss Jean and it features classic five pocket ‘s. The material is made of 98% cotton and 2% spandex.
This whole outfit would look adorable with a pair of heels or really cute flats. Just decide depending on the type of place you will be that day. Backyards and heels don’t make for a fun time walking.

We sure hope this helps in your decision on what to wear while celebrating this wonderful U.S.A. and the freedom we get to have, because of the decisions made on this day over 200 years ago.
Be safe and have a blast!
